PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va (WFXR) — Rock and roll fans from all over the country are coming together for the Blue Ridge Rock Festival (BRRF) at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend. The campsite for the festival opened at seven Wednesday morning, and eager concertgoers have been pouring in since.

The festival officially begins Thursday, Sep. 8. However, the five-night camping experience and festivities begin Wednesday, Sep. 7, with a pre-party concert and fans say they are ready to rock.

Aaralyn is a first-time BRRF goer, and she says she can’t wait for the shows to begin.

“Seeing all the bands and stuff like that is going to be a crazy new experience that I’ve never been to,” said Aaralyn.

Some of this excitement is a stark difference from last year’s event. The festival in 2021 brought about a lot of concern. Attendees faced several issues with transportation to and from the event, long wait times and overall disorganization.

WFXR was unable to speak with an event organizer about some of the specific changes being made in regards to last year’s challenges, but members of the community — like concertgoer Andrew Barnes say — despite this, they are looking forward to the camaraderie of the event.

“You meet new people every day, you get out and enjoy, you get the whole metal community out together, it’s like one giant family,” said Barnes

Barnes traveled more than eight hours from Pennsylvania to attend his third BRRF, and he says he has made several friends at the event over the past few years — making the drive totally worth it.

“It’s just a great overall experience to have fun and just live in the moment, and you know, have a good time,” said Barnes.
