DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Police have arrested and charged a man with second-degree-murder in connection with the death of Jaylan Fitzgerald, who was found shot along Cabell Street in Danville last week.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 3, the Danville Police Department says a citizen called 911 to report a man — later identified as 21-year-old Fitzgerald of Pittsylvania County — lying in the 600 block of Cabell Street with a gunshot wound. Fitzgerald later died at the scene.

Police say they arrested 20-year-old Earlquan Williams at his Danville home without incident on Wednesday, Feb. 10, charging him with second-degree murder in connection with Fitzgerald’s death.

According to the department, Williams is already the second man facing charges in relation to this homicide, but investigators cannot rule out that a third person was also involved.

Meanwhile, as of Thursday, Feb. 11, police say they are still searching for 19-year-old Avion Burton, who is also charged with second-degree murder in connection with the homicide investigation.

If you have information on this case or Burton’s location, you are asked to please contact the Danville Police Department at (434) 793-0000.
