Police investigate homicide after man found lying on street in Danville

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Police in Danville are investigating an afternoon shooting that resulted in a homicide after a Pittsylvania County man was found lying in the street.

The Danville Police Department released a statement on Wednesday, Feb. 3 saying that a citizen called 911 at approximately 3:15 p.m. to report a man lying in 600 block of Cabell Street with what the caller thought was a gunshot wound.

When police and EMS crews arrived on-scene, the department says they found a 21-year-old Pittsylvania County man dead with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

Police say Jaylan Fitzgerald has been identified as the victim in the incident.

Investigators reportedly canvassed the neighborhood and the crime scene looking for evidence from the scene.

The department has not released any information about potential suspects at this time.
