PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Pittsylvania County man died at the hospital after firefighters found him in cardiac arrest while they were responding to a structure fire Saturday morning.

According to Blairs Fire and Rescue Department, crews responded to the 800 block of Kentuck Church Road at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, for a report of a structure fire with possible entrapment.

Units made an attack and extinguished the blaze, but once they searched the home, the department says they found a 59-year-old resident in cardiac arrest.

First responders say they started advanced life support and the resident was brought to Sovah Health-Danville, where he was pronounced dead.

Fire officials are withholding the victim’s name until his family can be notified. Meanwhile, the body was reportedly brought to the Medical Examiner’s office in Roanoke.

According to the department, the Pittsylvania County Public Safety Fire Marshall’s Office will continue the investigation.

Blairs Fire and Rescue reportedly received assistance from Ringgold Fire and Rescue, Kentuck Fire Department, and Keeling Fire Department.
