UPDATE 2:20 p.m. (7/28/22): Virginia State Police shared new details with WFXR News about the two-vehicle crash in York County that left a Pittsylvania County first responder in critical condition early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, a 2010 Mercedes C300 and a 2016 Cadillac Escalade were traveling east on I-64 when the Mercedes swerved into the other lane and sideswiped the Cadillac shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 23.
Both vehicles pulled off onto the right shoulder at mile marker 242 to exchange information. However, as the driver of the Cadillac — identified by officials as 43-year-old Thomas W. Page of Gretna — was standing on the shoulder, the Mercedes hit the firefighter while leaving the scene, knocking him into the eastbound travel lane.
Police told WFXR News that Page was brought to Norfolk General Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, but the Town of Hurt — where Page works as a member of the volunteer fire department — said he was in critical condition.
Meanwhile, Virginia State Police say their investigation resulted in them finding the Mercedes and the driver in Newport News later Saturday morning. Valerie N. Gregg, 40, of Newport News was then charged with failure to stop at the scene of a crash.
As of Wednesday, July 27, officials say this crash is still under investigation.
(WFXR) — A Pittsylvania County first responder was flown to the hospital over the weekend after he was reportedly run over by a drunk driver in Williamsburg.
After the incident, Page got out of his vehicle to check for any injuries in the other vehicle, which then ran Page over, according to the Hurt fire department, according to a Facebook post from the Town of Hurt.
Page was reportedly airlifted to a Norfolk hospital in critical condition.
Page’s wife told Hurt officials that she and Page’s daughter, Emily, was also involved in the crash. While she was not physically injured, she was traumatized by the incident.

My family, Thomas Page and I need major prayers. Early this morning my husband and daughter Emily were involved in a car accident in Williamsburg. It was a drunk driver that hit them. Thomas got out of the vehicle and the drunk driver went to leave the scene and ran over Thomas with her vehicle. Our daughter Emily witnessed the entire event. Emily is not physically injured. Just very traumatized.
Thomas was flown from the scene to a trauma center in Norfolk. He is in critical condition, and not expected to make it. I have faith in God that can change. We are heading to the hospital shortly once everyone gets here to his parents house. It is a several hour drive to the trauma center. Please I beg you to keep us all in your prayers.
