Martinsville officials continue pursuing efforts to revert from city to town status

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Officials with the City of Martinsville continue looking into what it would take to revert from a city to a town that would fall under the governance of Henry County.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, Martinsville City Council received a report looking at what the procedure would be for reversion which would mean that the “town” would still continue to provide some services while Henry County would pick up other services.

While Martinsville city leaders say the city is not in financial trouble, they say reverting to town status would provide financial savings.

Reversion is not something that would potentially occur in months. Officials say it could be another two years before approval to revert from a city to a town takes place.
