MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Business owners in Martinsville say they’re scheduling additional staff to meet the demand of the number of fans they expect to show up for the races at the Martinsville Speedway this weekend.

Will Pearson, who owns three businesses in the area, explained that he cannot wait for the additional business.

“You look forward to it. And we get a lot of the same regulars that come [to] every race. And you get to know them. It’s like a friendship and a bond. And your staff has certain tables that you look forward to seeing. And it’s always fun. It’s kind of like a friend coming to visit.”

According to Pearson, they have made renovations to his businesses to make them more COVID-friendly, saying, “we have outdoor patios and outdoor dining there. We’re just trying to be safe for COVID. And you know, we don’t really know what to expect for the race, it’s been a while. The last race was actually, really good for business.”

Campers and fans are expected to arrive in the next couple of days.
