11/14 11:15AM UPDATE: Police report during an 11am press conference that Christopher Jones Jr. is in custody. Nearly 12 hours after the manhunt started.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Multiple police agencies, including the UVA Police Department and Virginia State Police, are looking for a suspect in connection to a university shooting that left three people dead and at least two others hurt.

According to UVA Police Department, the shooting happened on the University of Virginia campus around 10:40 on Sunday night.

Police have identified the suspect as Christopher Darnell Jones, a former football player for the school. Police say to be cautious as he is still considered armed and dangerous.

Officials say Jones was last seen wearing a burgundy jacket, blue jeans, and red shoes. He may also be driving a black SUV with the license plate number TWX3580.

UVA Emergency Management says law enforcement teams are continuing to search on and around the grounds of UVA and warns to expect a large police presence. They tell students and nearby residents to continue to shelter in place.

UVA Police Department says if you have seen or see Jones, do not approach. Instead, immediately call 911.
