DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — A man identified by police as a person of interest after two robberies at two different Danville stores — as well as a third attempted robbery — on Wednesday has been taken into custody.
The Danville Police Department says investigators charged Donzell Coles with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the string of incidents from Wednesday, June 9.
The first robbery happened at the Family Dollar at 2639 North Main Street at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday. Then, while police were still on that scene, someone robbed the Dollar General at 2398 West Main Street around 1 p.m.
According to an announcement from the department on Thursday, June 10, a member of the Danville City Sheriff’s Office was on his way to work when he recognized Coles walking down the street.
Coles was reportedly taken into custody without incident and is currently being held without bond in the Danville City Jail.
However, authorities say investigators are still following leads in the investigation and additional charges are pending.
