UPDATE: Danville Police ID man wanted in connection with deadly Thursday night shooting

UPDATE 4:57 a.m. (10/29/2021): Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who is facing several charges — including murder — following Thursday night’s deadly shooting in Danville.

The Danville Police Department tells WFXR News 43-year-old Jerome Jermaine Davis Jr. is accused of shooting 40-year-old Steve Gunter on Bradley Road just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28.

According to authorities, Davis is wanted for second-degree murder, as well as previous charges of felony attempted aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and brandishing a firearm.

Davis should be considered armed and dangerous. Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation.

If you have any information on his location, you are asked to call the patrol office at 434-799-6510, investigations at 434-799-6508, or Crime Stoppers at 434-793-0000. Information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case will be eligible for a cash reward.


UPDATE 9:54 p.m.: A 40-year-old Danville man is dead after a shooting in the River City Thursday evening, police say.

According to the Danville Police Department, a call came in about shots fired and a person being shot in the 400 block of Bradley Road just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28.

When officers arrived at the scene, they says they found a person with what appeared to be a gunshot wound in the street. The victim — identified as Steve Gunter — was pronounced dead by first responders.

The department says officers, investigators, and crime scene technicians are on scene and for a full-scale investigation.  

No information was released about the shooter.

Residents of the Bradley Road community and surrounding areas who may have any video surveillance cameras or information about the shooting are asked to contact the Danville Police Department by using social media messaging or calling the patrol office at 434-799-6510, investigations at 434-799-6508, or Crime Stoppers at 434-793-0000. Information leading to an arrest and conviction, in this case, will be eligible for a cash reward.


DANVILLE, VA. (WFXR)— The Danville Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened on Thursday night.

According to Capt. Steve Richardson, a man was shot and killed on Bradley Road.

No word yet on his identity or the shooter, but Richardson says it’s early in the investigation.
