Man in critical condition after early morning shooting in Danville, police say

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Police say a critically injured man is currently in the hospital an early morning shooting in Danville.

The Danville Police Department announced on Friday, Aug. 27 that officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Glendale Avenue and Verne Street shortly after 5 a.m.

Shortly after those initial calls, police say a 26-year-old Danville man arrived at the emergency room with a single gunshot wound to the back.  

Meanwhile, officers and investigators have reportedly been processing the crime scene on Glendale Avenue near Verne Street throughout the morning.

According to the department, the victim was hit while inside a vehicle, which appeared to be the target of the shooting.

As of this writing, authorities say the victim is in critical condition and the shooting is still under investigation. However, there is no word on any suspects or arrests at this time.
