DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Danville Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead and a woman hurt early Saturday morning.

At approximately 3:48 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, the department says officers responded to a call of a person being shot at the 700 block of Stokes Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they found 19-year-old Ja’Quise De’Juan Beard of Danville on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.

According to authorities, Beard was treated at the scene before being transported to SOVAH Danville Emergency Room, where he was later pronounced dead.

A 24-year-old Danville woman was also brought in to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police say.

The department tells WFXR News that the suspects were in a vehicle when they approached Bears and the woman, firing multiple rounds at the pair in front of a home in the 700 block of Stokes Street.

Officials say Saturday morning’s shooting appeared to be a targeted incident rather than a random act.

According to police, members of the department’s Investigative Bureau are investigating the incident and crime scene investigators are still at the scene as of 7:43 a.m. on Saturday.
