HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A woman is facing a manslaughter charge after authorities discovered a man’s body in a Halifax County home while responding to a shooting on Sunday.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in about a person being shot shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 26 at a residence on Union Church Road in Halifax.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a man inside the home who died from a suspected gunshot wound. His body was then sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke, officials say.

The man has since been identified as 45-year-old Tyree Jermaine Bailey of Virginia Beach, but he used to live in Halifax County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The day after the shooting, Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark announced the investigation determined that the people involved in the shooting knew each other and that this was an isolated incident.

According to authorities, 42-year-old Danene A. Stokes of Halifax, was arrested without incident on Wednesday, Dec. 29 and charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Bailey’s death.

Officials say Stokes was transported to the Halifax County Adult Detention Center and placed on a $7,500 secured bond. She ended up being released Wednesday night.

If you have any additional information about this fatal shooting — which is still under investigation — you are asked to call Investigator Sam Edmonds or Investigator Jeff Burton at 434-476-3339.
