HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that took place Saturday night in Bassett and resulted in a man’s death.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Martinsville-Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call at approximately 8:42 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 that a person had been shot at 1163 Jarrett Drive in Bassett.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they say they found the suspect — 21-year-old Isaiah Jeremiah Dillard of 1136 Jarrett Drive in Bassett — outside of the residence. He was reportedly taken into custody without incident.
The sheriff’s office says deputies entered the home and found a man on the floor with at least one gunshot wound to the chest, but first responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officials identified the man as 24-year-old Kaleb Tremaine Greene of Maple Street in Martinsville.
An autopsy of Greene’s body will be performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia.
During the investigation into the shooting, authorities discovered Greene was visiting the home at 1163 Jarrett Drive, he got involved in an argument, and Dillard shot him. Both men are said to have known each other.
According to officials, Dillard was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond at the Henry County Jail.
