HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Henry County man is in custody following a three hour long standoff with authorities after his brother was hospitalized early Monday morning with a gunshot wound in the back.
Shortly after 2:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office says the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center received a call from SOVAH Health Martinsville about a person arriving at the emergency room with a gunshot wound.
Henry County deputies responded to the hospital and spoke with the male victim — identified as 42-year-old William Bradley Clark of Ridgeway — in the emergency room. Authorities say Clark was initially treated at SOVAH Health Martinsville after being shot in the back, but then he was airlifted to Roanoke for treatment.
Through the course of the investigation, the sheriff’s office determined an argument occurred between the victim and his brother, 53-year-old Tracy Dean Clark of Axton, before Tracy pulled out a firearm and shot William in the back.
Deputies were dispatched to Tracy’s home, which is where the shooting reportedly took place.
However, when authorities tried to make contact with Tracy, he refused to exit the house. Negotiators from the sheriff’s office also made continuous attempts to communicate with Tracy. After approximately three hours, the sheriff’s office says Clark was observed inside the home and he was taken into custody without incident.
According to officials, Tracy is being held without bond in the Henry County Jail after being charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
