HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is sending K9 Fero best wishes for his early retirement following an unexpected injury.

Authorities say Fero has served his community bravely since September 2017 with his first handler, Sgt. Kendrick, as well as his most recent handler, Deputy Marinus.

“Fero is probably remembered best for his demonstrations at Hooker Field for the Hometown Hero’s night where he would show off his skills!” the Henry County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook on Wednesday, July 21. “…Again we would like to congratulate K9 Fero on a job well done! Thank you for your service.

Fero will be spending the rest of his years living with Kendrick while Marinus gets ready to start training his new K9, according to officials.
