PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Henry County man is dead after crashing an ATV in Patrick County Monday night without wearing a helmet, police say.

According to Virginia State Police, state troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 5 in the 400 block of Trents Store Lane.

Police say a 2013 Polaris ATV was heading north when it had a mechanical failure, ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected, traveled back into the road, and overturned.

The driver — identified by authorities as 45-year-old Gary W. Jones from Spencer — was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene of the crash, which is still under investigation.
