UPDATE 7:40 a.m.: Due to a lack of power, Halifax County Public Schools says that South Boston Early Learning Center will be closed on Tuesday. However, all other schools in the district will only be delayed by two hours.

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — After strong winds knocked down trees and power lines around southwest and central Virginia on Monday, Halifax County Public Schools decided to delay Tuesday’s operations.

According to the district, schools will open two hours late on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in order to make sure the power is on, buses are able to get out, and the buildings are in acceptable condition.

However, school officials still ask administrators, custodians, and maintenance staff to report to work on time.

This news comes as Dominion Energy reports 330 customers without power in Halifax County as of 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday because of the storm.
