UPDATE 8:20 p.m. (12/16/21): The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office says the medical examiner has determined that the two people who were found dead inside a smoking home Sunday morning were both shot to death.
There is no word on whether there are any persons of interest in this homicide and arson case.
The investigation is reportedly still ongoing.
DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Both Danville and Pittsylvania County authorities have launched an arson and homicide investigation after two people were found dead inside a smoking home Sunday morning by firefighters.
At approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in from a neighbor in the 800 block of Old Mayfield Road in Danville about smoke coming from a nearby residence.
According to authorities, when firefighters arrived at the scene, they entered the home and found the bodies of two males.
Based on the evidence found at the scene, the sheriff’s office says law enforcement officers are investigating the incident as an arson and homicide.
The bodies have reportedly been brought to the Medical Examiner in Roanoke to conduct the autopsies and determine the official causes of death. However, the identities of the individuals are being withheld pending the results of the autopsies.
Officials say the Pittsylvania County Fire Marshall, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth Attorney, the Danville Police Department, Virginia State Police, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force are taking part in this investigation.
As of this writing, authorities say no arrests have been made in connection with the investigation into the deaths of these two people.
