Police: Fiery crash leaves two dead in Danville Saturday morning

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – Police say two people are dead after a car crashed and caught on fire in Danville Saturday morning.

The Danville Police Department announced on Saturday, Sept. 4 that officers responded to the intersection of Piney Forest Road and Seminole Trail for a single-vehicle crash just before 8 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a four-door Nissan sedan engulfed in flames.

According to the department, the vehicle’s two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of the victims have been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office to be identified.

Police say their initial investigation shows the car was traveling north on Piney Forest Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, struck two telephone poles, and caught on fire.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
