DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Danville Fire Department has reported that a house fire occurred on the morning of Jan. 30, claiming the life of a woman trapped inside.

According to reports, around 3:50 a.m., a fire started at a residence on the 500 block of Lewis Street. On the scene, emergency responders arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the home. They were also informed of victims trapped inside.

During rescue attempts, crews found a woman inside a bedroom and immediately brought her outside to begin CPR. The Danville Life Saving Crew then transported the woman to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officials say another occupant escaped the burning home but refused treatment.

The home was searched for any remaining victims, but none were found.

The Danville Police and Utilities Department were both on the scene to assist during the incident. The fire has been extinguished, and the Danville Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating what caused the fire.
