GRETNA, Va. (WFXR) — The family of Jonathan Robertson is pleading for answers in his death.

The 28-year-old father was shot and killed on Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 12th, 2023. According to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened on Falcon Ridge Drive in the Leesville Lake community of Gretna. Deputies got the call around 10:30 p.m.

Robertson’s cousin, Rhonda Coles, says she still feels angry and disgusted about what happened, especially since no arrests have been made in the case.

“We know that house was full of people, from the videos we’ve seen online, just from the comments people have made, and we know someone had to see something, say something and we feel like no one is coming forward to do that,” said Coles.

Robertson’s cousin Charmaine remembers the night he died vividly. She says she arrived at the hospital before he did; someone brought him in their vehicle.

“He wasn’t moving his leg. He wasn’t recognizing that I was there to let me know that he was okay, that he was alright, and so I’m just yelling help him, help him, help him. Please help him,” said Charmaine.

Robertson later died at the hospital. He leaves behind a nine-year-old son who is now left with only memories of his father. Robertson’s mother, Beatrice Dianne English Robertson, says she still can’t believe he is gone.

“I still feel like I’m in a dream and I just want to wake up. It’s so hard for me to say Jonathan is dead. It’s so hard and I remember that night at the hospital when his friend said ‘Momma, he’s gone,'” said Robertson.

She now visits her son at his gravesite, across from her home.

“When I open my front door to go to my car I see the top of his flowers. When I pull up to my mailbox I’m looking directly at his grave,” said Robertson.

Despite there being many potential witnesses no arrests have been made. There’s no word on a possible suspect.

“It is so very hard. And for me right now even though there will never be a closure because my son was only 28 years old I would like to see that justice is done. I would like to see the individual or individuals responsible to be tried for this because you can’t just go and destroy somebody’s life and their family. Because we’ve all been destroyed in some form or fashion. You can’t just go do that and get away with it. That’s just not right. That’s just not right,” said Robertson.

The family is working hard to fight for justice. They’re constantly posting reminders about Jonathan Robertson online and making sure what happened to him is not forgotten.

“We feel the urgency to make sure that whoever is responsible knows we’re not letting up. That we are here until we find justice and we want them to see it every day. That it’s fresh in their memory that you took someone’s life,” said Coles.
