DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Danville Fire Department says Fire Marshals are investigating a house fire that left a family’s dog dead on March 6.

Around 5:43 a.m. on Monday, fire crews responded to the 600 block of Arlington Road to find a split-level home consumed in heavy smoke and flames exiting through the roof. Firefighters immediately begin emergency efforts and entered the home when the roof collapsed forcing crews to retreat.

Several first responders including the Piney Forest Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene to assist with the fire and salvage operations, which lasted for nearly six hours.

There were no reported injuries, but firefighters found the family’s dog deceased while searching the home. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
