UPDATE 7:15 p.m.: The fire on Friday night at 139 Longview Avenue in Danville has been determined to be the result of a cell phone charger left on a bed.

The Danville Fire Department says that the residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross because the house was heavily damaged.

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Crews with the Danville Fire Department battled a house fire Friday evening.

The department says the call came in just after 8 p.m. on Friday, May 14 for a fire at 139 Longview Avenue.

When crews arrived, they found a ranch home with heavy fire and smoke showing from the front of the residence. When they entered the home, fire officials say there was a large volume of flames in two bedrooms.

The fire was brought under control quickly while additional crews searched the home for possible occupants.

They were able to determine that nobody was home during the time of the fire.

Crews say there was extensive smoke, heat, and flame damage to most of the home, which is no longer habitable.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
