HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Henry County authorities are investigating a robbery that took place early Wednesday morning at the Fas Mart in Martinsville, followed by a high-speed chase.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the robbery took place shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 5972 A.L. Philpott Highway.
Authorities say a male entered the store, pulled out a firearm, and demanded money. He then left the scene after taking some cash.
Officials say the individual was reportedly wearing a black hoodie with a yellow and white design, blue latex gloves, and a face covering.
Moments later, a Virginia State Police trooper saw a vehicle traveling east on A.L. Philpot Highway at a high rate of speed, according to the sheriff’s office. The trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped past and a pursuit began.
Authorities say the vehicle eventually lost control and crashed at the intersection of Whispering Pines and Sugar Tree Church Road in Pittsylvania County. Three male subjects then exited the vehicle and ran away.
The vehicle — a 2006 Jeep Commander — was reportedly stolen from Danville on Friday, Oct. 22.
According to officials, evidence from the earlier robbery was recovered from inside of the vehicle.
