Danville police officer laid to rest on Monday after battling COVID-19

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Members of the Danville Police Department laid one of their own to rest on Monday after that officer was hospitalized last month because of the coronavirus.

According to the department, Officer Bonnie Jones passed away on Thursday, Sept. 9 and was buried on Monday, Sept. 13.

This news comes after members of the Danville City Council offered their thoughts and prayers to Jones and her family during a council meeting on Aug. 17. City officials said in a statement the following day that Jones was on a ventilator at Sovah Health-Danville due to COVID-19.

“Officer Bonnie Nicole Jones is 1042, R. I. P our friend,” the Danville Police Department posted on Facebook on Monday. “‘We will take it from here.'”
