PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police say a Danville man died at the hospital after being airlifted from the scene of a crash in Pittsylvania County early Sunday morning.
Virginia State Police say the fatal single-vehicle crash took place at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, along Berry Hill Road near Duncan Drive.
Authorities say a 2004 Volvo XC70 was heading north through a curve in the 1200 block of Berry Hill Road when it ran off the right side of the highway, hit an embankment, and overturned, causing the driver — who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash — to be ejected from the vehicle.
According to police, the driver — identified as 48-year-old Martin W. Rust — was flown from the scene of the crash to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries later Sunday morning.
The crash is reportedly still under investigation.
