DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Danville Area Humane Society is working to gather information about a dog’s condition after it was reportedly pulled along the highway.

According to the humane society, a woman said that she was driving near the fairgrounds on Route 62 and noticed a dog leashed in the bed of an older white truck with black markings and North Carolina plates starting with “TJN.”

The shelter says the dog fell out of the truck and was dragged along the road until the woman who reported the incident honked her horn and got the person’s attention.

The dog was still alive, but was reportedly limp as it was placed in the front seat before the person in the truck drove away.

The humane society describes the dog as a 4- or 5-month-old “black Lab type dog” with a teal collar.

According to shelter officials, they are only interested in making sure the dog received medical care.

If you have any information about this incident, you are asked to call the Danville Area Humane Society at 434-799-0843.

“Also, having a dog ride in the back of a truck is never a good idea,” the nonprofit wrote on Facebook on Thursday, July 14.
