UPDATE 10:48 a.m.: Thanks to a $100 contribution from Happy Tails Rescue, the Danville Area Humane Society says the reward for information about those responsible for throwing a kitten into a wall Tuesday evening is now at $1,200.

The humane society also reassured the community that the Danville Police Department takes animal cruelty cases very seriously and that Animal Control Officer Crowder is investigating the incident.

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Both the Danville Area Humane Society and community members are pitching in to provide a reward of $1,100 for information leading to an arrest following an act of animal cruelty.

According to the humane society, a kitten was thrown into a wall in the Pleasant View apartments around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The police were reportedly called to the scene and brought the kitten to a shelter.

“Incidents like this are why the board and staff remain committed to being an open-admission shelter, screening adoptive homes, and doing everything in our power to keep animals out of harm’s way,” the Danville Area Humane Society wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

The humane society says a veterinarian will examine the kitten, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Once he arrived at the shelter, the hungry kitten readily ate the food offered to him before falling asleep in a blanket.

Thanks to the Earl Merricks Stop the Cruelty Fund, the Danville Area Humane Society is offering $500 for information that leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for hurting this kitten. The Pink Plumber also chipped in $500 for the reward, as well as Bryon Hunt with $100.
