Danville Fire Department rescues dog trapped along the Dan River

Southside Virginia News

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Crews with the Danville Fire Department, Animal Control, and Danville Life Saving Crew responded to a call of a dog trapped near a log in the Dan River.

According to a statement released by the Danville Fire Department on Thursday, March 4, when crews arrived at 229 Northside Drive, they found a dog down an embankment — approximately 25 feet deep — and near a log that was entangled in some debris in the river.

The owner was reportedly on scene, as well.

The department’s technical rescue team put on their PPE and descended to the dog. The team managed to remove the dog from the debris so the dog could swim to the shoreline and back to his owner.

However, fire officials say the dog was not injured and did not need any assistance.
