DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – Crews with the Danville Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 6171 Riverside Drive.

According to a statement released by the department on Tuesday, Oct. 20, crews arrived on the scene, they found a two-story apartment building with heavy smoke and fire showing from one of the apartments on the ground floor.

The occupant of the apartment was on-scene and advised crews that everyone was out of the apartment except for four cats.

Firefighters made an interior attack on the fire while additional crews searched the floor above the fire as well as the fire floor.

All four cats were rescued and were determined to be okay.

There were no injuries reported in the fire and investigators determined that the cause of the fire was said to be due to unattended cooking.
