Building deemed total loss after Wednesday night fire in Danville

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — A building is deemed a total loss after a fire at the Danville Tree Care on Goodyear Boulevard Wednesday night.

The Danville Fire Department says crews arriving just before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, could see the fire before turning on Goodyear Boulevard.

According to the department, the fire was the main building in a fenced-in area belonging to Danville Tree Care.

Heavy fire was coming through the roof of a one-story building, but because of the amount of fire, crews did not enter the building. Instead they set up a ladder truck and used the aerial waterway and a handline to extinguish the main fire and spot fires around the building.

After 16 department personnel stayed on scene for just over two hours, the department announced the building and its contents were deemed a total loss, but the rolling equipment outside the building was not damaged.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause of Wednesday night’s fire.
