AEP to move transformer Wednesday in Danville; hours-long transfer to slow traffic along route

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – American Electric Power (AEP) will be moving a transformer on Wednesday which will be slowing traffic along the route of the move throughout parts of Danville.

Danville officials say the transformer will be moved from the former Dan River Mills’ Schoolfield site to a Norfolk Southern rail car near Monument Street.

The haul will have a police escort and is expected to take several hours to complete.

The move is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at Wood Avenue.

From there, it will move along the following route:

  • Browder Road
  • Park Avenue
  • Memorial Drive
  • Ridge Street
  • Wilson Street
  • Lynn Street
  • Industrial Avenue
  • Monument Street.

Motorists are urged to slow down and expect delays along that route.
