DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Police are asking for help from the Danville community to find a 75-year-old man who disappeared in August 2020 and was reported missing by his family last week.

The Danville Police Department says the family of Herman Harston reported on Friday, Feb. 19 that he had been missing for more than six months.

According to the department, Harston’s relatives said they have not seen or heard from him since he left his home on Chatelaine Avenue to head to the store in August 2020.

Police say the family reported it was not unusual for Harston to leave home for a month at a time. In addition, the elderly man allegedly used the city transit system frequently to get around.

However, Harston has been treated for mental illness and some physical limitations in the past, his relatives told the department.

Even though police spent several days checking nearby hospitals and speaking with Harston’s extended family and friends, nobody reported any contact with Harston in months.

If you have any information about Harston or his disappearance, you are asked to call the Danville Police Department at (434) 793-0000.
