Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort opening Thanksgiving Day

POCAHONTAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WFXR) — To the delight of anyone looking for some snow fun, Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort is opening Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Day.

Wednesday, Nov. 24, was Passholder and Employee Preview Day at Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort.

On Thanksgiving Day, everyone will be able to hit the slopes. The resort has been busy making snow, and 10 trails will be ready.

The resort wants skiers to be ready, as well, to hit the slopes. They say many guests don’t realize how cold it gets on the mountain.

“We’re an upside-down mountain so the resort is up top at 4,800 feet above the ocean; therefore, it gets mighty cold so make sure you bring the right equipment and the appropriate clothing. Cotton does not handle wetness well, so wool or synthetic fibers are key,” said Snowshoe Mountain Resort Ski Patrol Supervisor Austin Barga.

Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort will have more than 100 members of its ski patrol at the ready throughout the season to make sure skiers are safe.
