SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. (WFXR) – The 32nd annual Wine Festival is being rescheduled due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the region and across the country.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, Aug. 25 by the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce (SMLRCC).

“This is the absolute last thing we wanted to do but all of the data concerning infection rates and hospitalizations points to the fact that it’s the responsible thing to do. In the past month, cases per 100,000 people were up 639 percent in Bedford County and 2,231 percent in Franklin County, primarily due to the surging Delta variant.”

Andy Bruns, SMLRCC Executive Director

The festival — now taking place on Sept. 17-18, 2022, at Mariners Landing — is the Chamber’s largest non-dues fundraiser with proceeds going toward growing and developing programs to promote tourism and business in the lake region.

Bruns says the vast majority of the bands are being rebooked for the new dates and will announce final details in the next few days.

Any tickets purchased for this year’s now-postponed event will be honored on the new dates so patrons are encouraged to hold onto their tickets as the event is expected to sell out in 2022.

If you cannot attend, you can request a refund (minus service fees charged by the ticketing company) by emailing
