Several southwest Virginia schools modify Thursday operations amid severe weather forecasts

(WFXR) — With severe weather expected to reach the Commonwealth on Thursday, a number of schools around southwest Virginia decided to modify their operations for the day.

The following school districts have announced closures, schedule changes, or remote learning days as of 6:49 a.m. on Thursday, March 18:

Charlotte County

Charlotte County Public Schools will dismiss students at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and cancel all after-school activities for the day because of the strong storms forecasted for late in the afternoon.
If your student is taking the bus back on Thursday, you are asked to make sure someone is home as the student gets off the bus.

Craig County

Craig County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 1) on Thursday because of possible severe weather.

Halifax County

Halifax County Public Schools will hold a remote learning day for students and teachers on Thursday, but meal pickup will not be available due to the severe weather forecasts.

Roanoke County

Roanoke County Public Schools already planned to hold virtual learning days for all middle and high school students on Thursday and on Friday, March 19 before four days a week of in-person learning kicks off for students in the hybrid program on Monday, March 22.
