(WFXR) — Several school districts in the Southside and New River Valley regions have announced delays or closures for Monday after chilly overnight temperatures gave any melted snow or ice the chance to refreeze along the roadways.
Here is a list of the school districts in southwest Virginia that have decided to postpone or cancel operations as of 8:14 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24:
UPDATE: Charlotte County Public Schools will now be closed for students and staff on Monday — with no remote instruction — due to icy secondary roads and sub-freezing temperatures. However, 12-month employees should report by 10 a.m.
Danville Public Schools will operate on a one-hour delay on Monday because of icy conditions and the potential for black ice.
Giles County Public Schools reminded community members that Monday will be a teacher workday.
Grayson County Public Schools Superintendent Kelly B. Wilmore says all schools in the district will be closed on Monday for a snow day due to hazardous road conditions.
Halifax County Public Schools had planned to hold a professional development day for teachers on Monday, which means students should not attend school.
Wythe County Public Schools will be closed Monday for a teacher workday.
