(WFXR) — Amid power outages and winter weather concerns, a number of school districts in southwest and central Virginia have decided to call off or postpone Monday’s classes.
Here is the list of schools that have closed their doors or delayed their operations as of 12:02 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22:
UPDATE: Alleghany County Public Schools will now be closed on Monday with no virtual instruction.
UPDATE: Amherst County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 1) for both face-to-face and remote learning on Monday due to the freezing rain.
UPDATE: Bath County Public Schools will now be closed on Monday because of the inclement weather.
UPDATE: The Bath County government offices and courthouse will not open at all on Monday due to the weather conditions.
UPDATE: Rockbridge Regional Libraries say the Bath County Public Library will be closed on Monday because of the inclement weather and the lack of heat in the building.
Buena Vista City Public Schools will delay operations by two hours on Monday because of the potential for inclement weather.
Charlotte County Public Schools will be closed on Monday for both students and staff because of widespread power outages. Twelve-month employees should report on time unless they do not have electricity at home, in which case they should contact their supervisor if they plan to be out for the day.
The Red Cross is set to provide hot meals in a drive-thru fashion at 2:30 p.m. on Monday in the Central Middle School main parking lot at the front of the building for anyone who would like a hot meal.
UPDATE: Covington City Public Schools will be closed on Monday.
UPDATE: Craig County Public Schools will now be closed on Monday because of icy conditions. School officials say there will not be any virtual learning or meal pickup for the day.
Floyd County Public Schools are closed for all students on Monday, but that is because of mid-winter break.
UPDATE: Grayson County Public Schools will now be closed on Monday.
UPDATE: Highland County Public Schools will hold a virtual learning day on Monday.
Nelson County Public Schools has postponed Monday’s drive-in Open House for PreK through third grade until Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
UPDATE: Rockbridge County Public Schools will now be closed for Monday because of the continued wintry mix and dangerous road conditions across the county. In addition, the school district will not deliver meals until Tuesday.
In addition, Rockbridge Regional Libraries say the Goshen Public Library will not open until noon on Monday because of the inclement weather.
