Senator Mark Warner issued a statement today on the arrest of Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks.

Assange was arrested by British Police on Thursday for allegedly participating in a computer hacking conspiracy with Chelsea Manning.

“Julians Assange has long professed high ideals and moral superiority. Unfortunately, whatever his intentions when he started WikiLeaks, what he’s really become is a direct participant in Russian efforts to undermine the West and a dedicated accomplice in efforts to undermine American security,” said Senator Mark Warner.

Manning was arrested previously for refusing to testify.

A judge ordered Assange to remain in custody pending an extradition hearing on May 2.
