FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — More than 100 supporters of the Second Amendment gathered together for a militia muster call on Saturday afternoon in Floyd County.

Concerned Citizens of Floyd — the group who organized the event — says the purpose of the muster call was to organize volunteers willing to join a militia to defend the rights of Floyd County citizens if necessary. More than 100 men and women assembled for the event on Saturday.

According to Richard Dimmel, a member of Concerned Citizens of Floyd, the goal would be for county governments and county residents to work together to protect each other.

“I think it’s everybody’s responsibility to recognize that the Constitution’s the highest law in the country and that it’s actually a violation of federal law to trample on people’s civil rights and try to illegally take them away,” says Dimmel. “Nobody ever thought a crisis like this was going to drop on us, and yet here it is. One of the most fundamental rights is being threatened by the legislature and the Governor. That’s a really sad state of affairs.”

Many of the people who attended the militia muster call plan on heading to Richmond for the Virginia Citizens Defense League rally on Monday.
