(WFXR) — As crews continue to clean up the snow and ice still covering the roads around Virginia after Sunday’s winter storm, a number of school districts and facilities have decided to cancel, delay, or move Tuesday’s operations online.

Here is a list of southwest and central Virginia schools and facilities that have decided to close or modify their operations as of 12:34 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18:

Alleghany County:

Alleghany County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, but non-essential 12-month employees may work remotely.

Alleghany County offices will not open until 10 a.m. on Tuesday due to the inclement weather.

In addition, refuse collection for Alleghany County Public Works will run on a two-hour delay.

Amherst County:

Amherst County Public Schools will be closed (Code 2) for a snow day on Tuesday because of the conditions of the county’s secondary roads and school grounds.

The Central Virginia Health District says the Amherst County Health Department will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Centra Medical Group in Amherst will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Appomattox County:

Appomattox County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Cornerstone Christian Academy in Appomattox will be closed Tuesday because of road conditions.

Appomattox County administration offices will open at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Central Virginia Health District says the Appomattox County Health Department will open at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Bath County:

Bath County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

The Bath County location of Rockbridge Regional Libraries is closed for the day due to snowy and icy conditions. In addition, the Bookmobile will not make any stops on Tuesday.

Bedford County:

Bedford County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 2) on Tuesday, which means the schools will be closed and essential personnel are the only ones who will report.
However, the 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Zoom meetings for the Family and Community strategic planning focus groups will still take place as planned.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy in Moneta will be closed on Tuesday.

The Bedford General District Court and the Bedford JDR Court will not open until 10 a.m. on Tuesday because of the icy road conditions. As a result, the 8:30 a.m. hearing at the Bedford JDR Court is being continued.

The Central Virginia Health District says the Bedford County Health Department will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Centra Health and Vascular Institute and Centra Medical Group in Bedford will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Town of Bedford has delayed the reporting time for nonessential personnel and the opening of town offices until noon on Tuesday. However, all emergency, on call, and other employees who have responsibility for ongoing operations should check with their supervisors about regular and/or contingency reporting hours.

Bland County:

Bland County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday for a snow day.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Bland County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Botetourt County:

Botetourt County Public Schools will be closed (Code 4) for Tuesday.

The Town of Buchanan says Tuesday’s coronavirus vaccination clinic — which was scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. — has been canceled. If you had an appointment for this clinic, you will receive a call to reschedule.

Botetourt County Parks and Rec basketball activities are canceled for Tuesday.
In addition, the 6:30 p.m. meeting of the Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Commission has been canceled.

Botetourt County government offices, including libraries, will be closed on Tuesday. However, the Treasurer’s Office and the Commissioner of the Revenue will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Buena Vista:

Buena Vista City Public Schools will be closed (Code 2, essential personnel) on Tuesday.

Buena Vista city offices will open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Buena Vista location of Rockbridge Regional Libraries is closed for the day due to snowy and icy conditions. In addition, the Bookmobile will not make any stops on Tuesday.

Campbell County:

Campbell County Public Schools was already set to be closed to students on Tuesday in order to have a teacher workday.

The Central Virginia Health District says the Campbell County Health Department will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Centra Medical Group in Altavista and in Brookneal will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Campbell County administrative offices — including the Campbell County Public Library System — will open two hours late on Tuesday. However, vital public safety and law enforcement services will operate under the normal schedule.

The Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department says the Altavista Senior Bingo scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

Carroll County:

Carroll County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 1) on Tuesday.

Hillsville Preschool will also be closed Tuesday.

Carroll County government offices will be closed and the scheduled EDA meeting will be canceled on Tuesday.

The Carroll County Circuit Court will also be closed Tuesday, according to the court clerk.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Carroll County Health Department will be closed on Tuesday. In addition, the mobile vaccine clinic scheduled for that day at St. Paul School in Cana has been canceled.

The Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter will be closed on Tuesday, but any dog available that day will still be available when the shelter reopens on Wednesday.

Charlotte County:

Charlotte County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday because of the icy secondary roads. Students are asked to complete the Day 1 assignments sent home with them on Friday, Jan. 14 and be prepared to submit those assignments when they return to school. Meanwhile, 12-month employees are asked to report by 10 a.m. or use leave.

Covington:

Covington City Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Craig County:

Craig County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 1) on Tuesday due to continuous wintry conditions.

Danville:

Danville Public Schools will be closed for a snow day on Tuesday, which means all district facilities will be closed and employees are asked not to report to work.

Westover Christian Academy will also be closed on Tuesday.

In addition, Averett University will operate on a two-hour delay for Tuesday, with offices opening and classes beginning at 10 a.m. following a delayed class schedule. The Dining Hall will also open at 10 a.m. for brunch and the on-campus COVID-19 testing kiosk will open mid-morning, but North Campus is closed until further notice.

Danville Community College will be closed for Tuesday due to inclement weather.

The Salem VA Medical Center says the VA Clinic in Danville will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

CMG Prime Care East, CMG Primary Care Danville, CMG Specialty Care Danville, CMG Urgent Care Danville, and Centra Health And Vascular Institute in Danville will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Floyd County:

Floyd County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, which means it will be a non-instructional day for all students.

The New River Health District says the Floyd County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will contact you to reschedule.
In addition, the COVID-19 testing scheduled at the Floyd County Health Department will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The Floyd County administration office will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Franklin County:

Franklin County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Ferrum College has changed the times for move-in registration due to the winter storm and icy campus conditions. Students may now arrive on campus to register for move-in between noon and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, or between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
In addition, all classes on Wednesday will be held remotely.

Both of the Franklin County Public Library‘s locations will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. In addition, Rocky Mount’s Toddler Time has been canceled.

The Franklin County Courthouse will be closed on Tuesday, including all courts and clerks offices.

Franklin County offices will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Rocky Mount town offices will also open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The West Piedmont Health District says the Franklin County Health Department will open two hours late because of Tuesday’s dangerous travel conditions.

Galax:

First Baptist Galax Preschool will be closed on Tuesday.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Galax City Health Department will be closed on Tuesday.

The Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter will be closed on Tuesday, but any dog available that day will still be available when the shelter reopens on Wednesday.

The Galax Recreation Center and the Galax City Municipal Building and administration offices will be closed on Tuesday.

There will also be no Tuesday trash pickup by the City of Galax due to the weather conditions.

Giles County:

Giles County Public Schools will be closed for a snow day on Tuesday.

Jefferson Christian Academy in Ripplemead will have a virtual learning on Tuesday because of the icy road conditions.
You are asked to use your child’s snow day packet, which was sent home on Friday. If you need any help from teachers, though, they will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The New River Health District says the Giles County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will contact you to reschedule.

Feeding Southwest Virginia has canceled Tuesday’s Senior Distribution and Mobile Marketplace programs at First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. However, these events will be rescheduled for noon to 2 p.m. on Jan. 25.

The Town of Pearisburg Municipal Building will not open until noon on Tuesday. In addition, the clerks office will be closed all day. However, staff will be available to help customers in the Treasurers Office if you call 540-921-1222, ext. 1.

Grayson County:

Grayson County Public Schools will be closed for a snow day on Tuesday due to the bad road conditions and power outages.

Grayson County administrative offices will also be closed on Tuesday because of the inclement weather.

The Grayson County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office and the Grayson County Combined Court will also be closed on Tuesday.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Grayson County Health Department will be closed on Tuesday.

The Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter will be closed on Tuesday, but any dog available that day will still be available when the shelter reopens on Wednesday.

Halifax County:

Halifax County Public Schools will be closed (Code 0) on Tuesday due to the road conditions, which means all 12-month employees are asked not to report to work.

The Halifax County Courthouse and the administrative office for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office will be closed on Tuesday because of icy roads.

Henry County:

Henry County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 3) on Tuesday because of the impassable roadways from the winter storm.

The Henry County administration building will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday while the Henry County Courthouse will open at 11 a.m. due to the potentially hazardous road conditions expected in the morning.

The West Piedmont Health District says the Henry-Martinsville Health Department will open two hours late because of Tuesday’s dangerous travel conditions.

The Martinsville Henry County Visitor Center will be closed on Tuesday.

Highland County:

Highland County Public Schools‘ building will be closed on Tuesday, but it will still be a virtual learning day.

Lexington:

Lexington City Schools will be closed on Tuesday.

Lexington city offices, however, will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday amid the inclement weather.

Portions of Washington, Nelson, and Randolph will be temporarily closed throughout the day for snow removal, according to Lexington city officials. You are asked to use caution when traveling near these work zones.

The Lexington location of Rockbridge Regional Libraries is closed for the day due to snowy and icy conditions. In addition, the Bookmobile will not make any stops on Tuesday.

Lynchburg:

Lynchburg City Schools will be closed for students and staff on Tuesday, but 12-month employees should work remotely or report to work when it is safe to do so. Meanwhile, essential personnel — including grounds, custodial, warehouse, and transportation snow team — should report at 9 a.m. or when it is safe.
“This is a snow day and not a remote learning day. Staff will not be taking attendance or teaching virtually,” the district wrote on Facebook.

Liberty Christian Academy and the Early Learning Center will be closed Tuesday because of the hazardous road conditions.

Liberty University will not open until noon on Tuesday because of inclement weather.

Randolph College will hold a remote work day with regular hours on Tuesday because of the freezing overnight temperatures. Essential employees should report as required. If you are not working remotely, you are asked to report at noon.

The Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office, the Lynchburg Circuit Court, the Lynchburg General District Court, and the Lynchburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will all open at noon on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Lynchburg City Hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Lynchburg Humane Society‘s South Central Spay Neuter Clinic will open one hour late on Tuesday. You can text 434-207-2612 to reschedule.

The Central Virginia Health District says the Lynchburg Health Department will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Salem VA Medical Center says the VA Clinic in Lynchburg will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

CMG Piedmont Psychiatric Center, CMG Wound Care, Centra Autism and Developmental Center, Centra Health and Vascular Institute, and Centra Medical Group in Lynchburg will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Martinsville:

Martinsville City Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 0) on Tuesday.

Patrick & Henry Community College will also be closed Tuesday due to the potentially hazardous driving conditions.

The West Piedmont Health District says the Henry-Martinsville Health Department will open two hours late because of Tuesday’s dangerous travel conditions.

The Martinsville Henry County Visitor Center will be closed on Tuesday.

Montgomery County:

Montgomery County Public Schools will have an inclement weather day (Code B) on Tuesday, which means students should check Google Classroom for an assignment for the day. Meanwhile, teachers and 12-month employees are set to work from home.

St. John Neumann Academy in Blacksburg is closed for Tuesday.

The Montgomery County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will not open until 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Montgomery County Government Center and the Department of Social Services will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by the Montgomery County Consolidated Sites at 1 p.m.

The New River Health District says the Montgomery County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will contact you to reschedule.

Nelson County:

Nelson County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday because of the icy road conditions, but essential personnel should report at 10 a.m. to help clean the walkways and the building entrances.
“Due to continued power outages in our area, Tuesday WILL NOT be a remote learning day,” the district wrote on Facebook. “Enjoy a good old fashioned snow day but be careful as ice is not as forgiving as that fluffy white snow in which we all love to play!”

Patrick County:

Patrick County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. There will not be any virtual instruction, and 12-month employees will not report.

The West Piedmont Health District says the Patrick County Health Department will be closed because of Tuesday’s dangerous travel conditions.

Pittsylvania County:

Pittsylvania County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Plan A) on Tuesday, with no remote learning because of the inclement weather.

Faith Christian Academy in Hurt will also be closed on Tuesday.

The Pittsylvania-Danville Health District has canceled Tuesday’s COVID-19 testing event at the Chatham Community Center due to the winter weather.

CMG Gretna Physician Practice and Centra Health and Vascular Institute in Pittsylvania County will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

All Pittsylvania County offices will operate on a three-hour delay on Tuesday, which means the courthouse and other county offices will open at 11 a.m.
However, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors’ meetings at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. will continue as planned.

The Pittsylvania Pet Center will be closed on Tuesday. If you have an animal emergency, you are asked to call Pittsylvania County Animal Control at 434-432-7937.

Pulaski County:

Pulaski County Public Schools will be closed (Code 1) on Tuesday. Even though there will be no remote learning, all essential snow removal personnel should report by 8 a.m. while all other 11- and 12-month employees should report by 10 a.m.

The New River Health District says the Pulaski County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will contact you to reschedule.

Radford:

Radford City Public Schools will be closed (Code 0) for students on Tuesday because of the inclement weather. Faculty and staff are asked not to report, and all extracurricular activities are canceled. However, certain employees will need to be on call and report as needed.

Radford University and Radford University Carilion will not open until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, which means any classes before than time are canceled for the day.

In Radford, the city’s recreation department will open at 9 a.m., city administration will open at 10:30 a.m., and the library will open at noon on Tuesday.

The New River Health District says the Radford City Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will contact you to reschedule.

Roanoke City:

Roanoke City Public Schools — both the schools and the central office — will be closed on Tuesday. However, essential personnel responsible for snow removal are asked to report.

Roanoke Catholic School and Community High School will be closed on Tuesday because of the wintry conditions.

Roanoke City offices will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday. A-week single-stream recycling, bulk and brush will be collected on the following dates:

  • Tuesday’s run will be collected on Wednesday
  • Wednesday’s run will be collected on Thursday
  • Thursday’s run will be collected on Friday

All Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority offices will be closed on Tuesday.

Chris’s Coffee & Custard in Roanoke will be closed on Tuesday.

Kids Square Children’s Museum will also be closed.

Frank Chervan, Inc. in Roanoke will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Feeding Southwest Virginia‘s location in Roanoke will open two hours late on Tuesday.

The parish office at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Roanoke will be closed on Tuesday. Daily mass and all activities on the hill have also been canceled for the day amid icy road conditions.

The Rescue Mission of Roanoke‘s stores and donation center will open at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Roanoke County:

Roanoke County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday as wintry weather conditions continue throughout the county.
“Tomorrow will NOT be a virtual day, so enjoy the snow day,” the district wrote on Facebook on Monday.

Virginia Western Community College will be closed for both day and evening classes on Tuesday.

UPDATE: Roanoke County administrative offices — as well as the recreation centers and public libraries — will not open at all on Tuesday. In addition, trash will not be collected that day.

The Vinton Municipal Building will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Also in Vinton, Monday and Tuesday’s refuse pickup run will take place on Wednesday; Wednesday’s run will be collected on Thursday; and Friday’s run will be collected as normal.
Bulk items will be collected as soon as possible due to high snow along the streets. Bulk collection should be caught up next week or as the snow melts.

Rockbridge County:

Rockbridge County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday due to slick, icy roads throughout the county.

Rockbridge Christian Academy will be closed on Tuesday.

The Rockbridge County staffed collection centers will open at 9 a.m., the county administrative offices will open at 10 a.m., and the Rockbridge County Courthouse will open at noon on Tuesday.

Rockbridge County’s Economic Development Authority meeting scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday has been canceled.

The Glasgow and Goshen locations of Rockbridge Regional Libraries are closed for the day due to snowy and icy conditions. In addition, the Bookmobile will not make any stops on Tuesday.

Salem:

Salem City Schools will be closed on Tuesday since the parking lots, sidewalks, and steps have yet to be cleared of snow.

The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts say that Tuesday’s coronavirus testing event at the Salem Civic Center has been canceled due to the weather.

Feeding Southwest Virginia‘s location in Salem will open two hours late on Tuesday.

Wythe County:

Wythe County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 3) on Tuesday.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Wythe County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Salem VA Medical Center says the VA Clinic in Wytheville will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
