(WFXR) — Due to concerns about inclement weather and hazardous road conditions, numerous school districts and facilities around southwest and central Virginia have decided to close down, delay operations, or operate virtually on Wednesday.

The following schools and facilities from across the region have announced closures, delays, or remote operations as of 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19:

Alleghany County:

Alleghany County Public Schools will be closed for Wednesday because of the inclement weather.

Amherst County:

Amherst County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 1) on Wednesday due to the inclement weather.

Appomattox County:

Appomattox County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday.

Cornerstone Christian Academy in Appomattox will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday in order to give secondary roads and driveways a chance to warm up.

Bath County:

Bath County Public Schools will delay Wednesday’s operations by two hours.

Bedford County:

Bedford County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 3) for in-person learning on Wednesday because of unsafe road conditions. However, this will still be a virtual learning day, with teachers loading assignments in Canvas courses for students with access to their Chromebooks.
Meanwhile, offices will open at 10 a.m.

The Bedford County Circuit Court, General District Court, and Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office are set to open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy in Moneta will be closed for students on Wednesday. Teachers and staff are asked to refer to “flock message.”

Bland County:

Bland County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday for a snow day.

Botetourt County:

Botetourt County Public Schools will be closed (Code 3) on Wednesday.

Buena Vista:

Buena Vista City Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 3) on Wednesday.

Buena Vista city administration offices will not open until 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Campbell County:

Campbell County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday.

Carroll County:

Carroll County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 2) for in-person learning on Wednesday, but this will be a virtual learning day.
Free meal bags — consisting of six meals — will be available for pickup for any Carroll County student from noon to 1 p.m. at Carroll County High School, Gladeville Elementary School, and St. Paul School. Parents or students can pick up the bags.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Carroll County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Charlotte County:

Charlotte County Public Schools will be closed for students and staff on Wednesday due to icy secondary roads and the potential for refreezing. However, 12-month employees should report by 10 a.m., avoiding entrances marked by cones or caution tape. Students are asked to complete their day 2 instructional packets.

Covington:

Covington City Public Schools are closed for Wednesday.

Craig County:

Craig County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Code 1) on Wednesday due to wintry conditions throughout the county.

Danville:

Danville Public Schools will have a virtual day on Wednesday due to hazardous travel conditions. The school day will start at the regular time for students.

Westover Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday.

Floyd County:

Floyd County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday as part of a non-instructional day for students.

The New River Health District says the Floyd County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will reach out to you about rescheduling.

Franklin County;

Franklin County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday.

Galax:

Galax City Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, with no virtual learning.

First Baptist Galax Preschool will be closed on Wednesday.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Galax City Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Giles County:

Giles County Public Schools will hold a virtual learning day on Wednesday. Even though students will not report to school, they are expected to participate in virtual lessons throughout the day with their teachers.
Food will also be available for pickup between 2 and 3 p.m. at the SBO.

Jefferson Christian Academy in Ripplemead will operate virtually on Wednesday.

The New River Health District says the Giles County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will reach out to you about rescheduling.

Grayson County:

Grayson County Public Schools will be closed and hold a virtual learning day on Wednesday.

Grayson County Combined Court will not open until 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Mount Rogers Health District says the Grayson County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Halifax County:

Halifax County Public Schools will not offer school for students on Wednesday due to the adverse road conditions. The district will have a workday, though, so staff members who can make it are welcome to come to the school after 11 a.m. and after checking in with their principal. Those who cannot make it in will receive direction from their building principal or supervisor about expectations for the workday.

Henry County:

Henry County Public Schools will hold a remote learning day (Employee Code 2) on Wednesday because of hazardous travel conditions in some parts of the county. As a result, students will learn virtually from home using Canvas.

The Henry County administration building will not open until 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Henry-Martinsville Department of Social Services will open two hours late on Wednesday.

Henry County Parks and Rec says Wednesday’s “Senior Services” events have been canceled.

The Martinsville Henry County Visitor Center will be closed on Wednesday.

Highland County:

Highland County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for Wednesday.

Lexington:

Lexington City Schools will delay opening by two hours on Wednesday.

Lynchburg:

Lynchburg City Schools will be closed for students and staff on Wednesday due to some hazardous road conditions, as well as icy sidewalks and parking lots.
However, essential staff should report at 9 a.m. or when it is safe. Twelve-month employees should work remotely or report to work when it is safe to do so.
“This is a snow day and not a remote learning day. Staff will not be taking attendance or teaching virtually,” the district wrote on Facebook.

Liberty Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday because of the poor road conditions around the area, but the Early Learning Center will operate on a two-hour delay, with early rooms opening at 9 a.m.

Martinsville:

Martinsville City Public Schools will not offer school on Wednesday. However, 12-month employees will operate on a two-hour delay.

Patrick & Henry Community College will be closed on Wednesday because of potentially hazardous road conditions.

The Henry-Martinsville Department of Social Services will open two hours late on Wednesday.

The Martinsville Henry County Visitor Center will be closed on Wednesday.

Montgomery County:

Montgomery County Public Schools will hold an inclement weather day (Code B) on Wednesday, which means it will be a remote learning day. Students are asked to check Google Classroom for their inclement weather day assignment, and 12-month employees should report two hours late.

The New River Health District says the Montgomery County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will reach out to you about rescheduling.

Nelson County:

Nelson County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, but this will still be a remote learning day, with no afterschool activities.
Essential personnel should report at 10 a.m. to prepare for the 12-month staff, who will report at noon. The buildings will be open from noon to 4 p.m. in case teachers need to access them.

Patrick County:

Patrick County Public Schools will operate virtually on Wednesday.

Pittsylvania County:

Pittsylvania County Public Schools will be closed (Employee Plan E-10) on Wednesday due to icy road conditions, with no remote learning.

Faith Christian Academy in Hurt will be closed on Wednesday.

Pittsylvania County offices will open two hours late on Wednesday because of the potential refreezing from overnight. In addition, the General District Court will open at 8:30 a.m., but the Circuit Court and the Juvenile and Domestic Court will open at 10 a.m.

The Pittsylvania Pet Center is scheduled to open at noon on Wednesday.

Pulaski County:

Pulaski County Public Schools will be closed (Code 1) on Wednesday, with no virtual learning. However, all essential snow-removal personnel should report by 8 a.m. while all other 11- and 12-month employees should report by 10 a.m.

The New River Health District says the Pulaski County Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will reach out to you about rescheduling.
In addition, the health department will offer COVID-19 testing from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Radford:

Radford City Public Schools will be closed (Code 1) on Wednesday, which means students, faculty, and staff should not report. Decisions about extracurricular activities — including practices — on Wednesday afternoon will be made later.

The New River Health District says the Radford City Health Department will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. If you have a morning appointment, the staff will reach out to you about rescheduling.

Roanoke City:

Roanoke City Public Schools — both the schools and the central office — will be closed on Wednesday due to the wintry conditions throughout the city. However, essential personnel who are responsible for snow removal are asked to report to work.
Grab-and-go meals will be available at Fallon Park Elementary School, Lincoln Terrace Elementary School, Fishburn Park Elementary School, and Westside Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Community High School will be closed on Wednesday.

Roanoke Catholic School will be closed on Wednesday, but teachers will use the day to prepare a virtual learning plan for any additional weather-related closures moving forward.

St. Andrews Catholic Church will keep the parish office closed and not offer daily mass on Wednesday. In addition, all activities on the hill are canceled because of the icy road conditions.

All Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority offices will delay opening until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Roanoke County:

Roanoke County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday because of ongoing wintry conditions in the county, with no virtual learning.

North Cross School will be closed on Wednesday.

Virginia Western Community College will be closed on Wednesday, which means day and night classes are canceled.

Roanoke County offices and recreation facilities will not open until 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Rockbridge County:

Rockbridge County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday due to slick and icy secondary roads throughout the county.

Salem:

Salem City Schools will be closed on Wednesday due to concerns about refreezing and some outside areas that still need to be cleared.

Wythe County:

Wythe County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday.
