All City of Salem Youth and Adult leagues scheduled for the spring season — including Youth Baseball, Youth Softball, Youth Soccer, and Adult Softball — have been canceled. The department says it will begin issuing refunds for participants this week.

In addition, all activities, classes, trips, and programs, for the Salem Senior Center and the Salem community are canceled through May 17.

Since Gov. Ralph Northam is encouraging folks to maintain social distancing while taking advantage of the outdoors, all Salem Parks and Greenway trails will remain open as “passive facilities,” but all bathrooms in Salem Parks will be closed.

According to the department, the Salem Senior Center, Salem Sports Office, Moyer Sports Complex, and Kiwanis Park are all closed. However, as of Thursday, Longwood Park, Moyer Park, Moyer Skate Park, Tennis Courts, and Pickleball Courts will remain open.

Even though all existing picnic shelter reservations are subject to the discretion of the renter and patrons should adhere to all social distancing guidelines, the department says new picnic shelter rentals will not be considered until May 17.

The main administrative office of Salem Parks & Recreation Department on Florida Street will remain open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday through Friday to provide necessary access for the Local Office of Aging.
