ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Things are a little different when it comes to Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure, this time they are asking participants to race where they are on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Those interested in participating will need to visit the Susan G. Komen Virginia Blue Ridge website. there you will an easy guide to registering. Once registered, participants are asked to download the Race App on their mobile phones which will track your steps during the event. Your phone must be on you during the event or those steps won’t count.

Even though things are different this year and participants won’t be participating physically like before, organizers have added online elements on Facebook to keep participants engaged like crowd favorites the opening ceremony and the survivor and fighter parade walk.

“I really do think that we made the best of a bad situation. everything is going to be great we have lots of people participating on Saturday we have people gathering for their teams socially distanced and walking together in neighborhoods and in parks really it’s going to be exciting. And it’s nice that it’s so different.”
