Rally held Saturday in Roanoke to protect women’s reproductive rights

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — On Saturday, the Women’s March on Roanoke, as well as Roanoke Indivisible, hosted a rally to make an urgent statement about abortion rights.

About 150 people attended the rally on Saturday, Oct. 2 and made signs with messages that showed the importance of reproductive rights.

Organizers of this local rally say that the Texas abortion law and an upcoming Supreme Court ruling on Roe versus Wade has caused even more frustration.

“I think there are really two things that are leading to the fear, rage and energy that you saw here today,” said Yvonne Wallace-Fuentes, one of the organizers. “What was so amazing to me was that fear and anger brought us together, but you saw joy here today of people getting together to protect something that they feel is a right that needs to be protected.”

The rally was one of around 600 events held across the country to protect reproductive rights.
