Woman displaced after Wednesday apartment fire in Vinton

VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — A woman was able to escape an apartment fire Wednesday evening in Vinton.

According to Roanoke County Fire & Rescue, crews responded to the 400 block of Vale Avenue around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3 for a report of a commercial structure fire at an apartment building.

When units arrived, they found smoke coming from a first-floor apartment occupied by a woman, but she was able to escape.

The fire was reportedly brought under control within about 15 minutes.

According to fire officials, nobody was injured in the fire and the residents of nearby apartments will not be displaced.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross will be assisting the displaced woman.

The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office deemed the cause of the fire as accidental and estimated the damage at $5,000.
