William Byrd Middle, William Byrd High will be closed Friday due to power outage

Roanoke Valley News

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Both William Byrd Middle School and William Byrd High School will be closed Friday due to an extended power outage.

Appalachian Power informed officials with Roanoke County Public Schools that they do not anticipate restoring power until noon or later on Friday, April 30.

As a result, William Byrd Middle School and William Byrd High School students will not have classes on Friday. However, the power outage will not impact other schools in the district.

In addition, Roanoke County school officials say buses will not be running between William Byrd High School and Burton Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT) on Friday.

If parents are able to do so, they are asked to drop off and pick up their students at BCAT on Friday. If not, the school district says any William Byrd High students who are not able to attend classes at BCAT will have an excused absence.

However, buses will be running normally for all other Roanoke County public schools on Friday.
