FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A woman is facing a murder charge after Franklin County authorities found a man dead inside a Franklin County home on Monday.

Officials say the Franklin County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Monday, April 12 for a well-being check at the Ferrum home of Walter Sigmon and Carol Long in the 11000 block of Franklin Street.

When a deputy arrived at the residence, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Carol Elizabeth Long told the deputy that 62-year-old Walter Gail Sigmon was dead inside of the home.

Over the course of the investigation, Long was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, according to the sheriff’s office. She is reportedly being held without bond.

The department says this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
