VINTON, Va. (WFXR) – It’s that time of year…the “longest-running festival in Virginia’s Blue Ridge” is dawning.
The Vinton Dogwood Festival runs on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24… and it’s free!
Festivities include craft and business showcase vendors, entertainment, free Kids’ Zone, an antique car show, festival foods, a Friday evening concert, an outdoor Family Movie Night on Saturday, a non-traditional “Vinton Dogwood Festival Walk-by and Drive-by Parade” and much more.
The celebration begins April 23 with a concert by Fuzzy Logic and Mended Fences at the Vinton Farmers’ Market Stage between 6 and 10 p.m. Admission to the show is $5 and guests are asked to bring a chair. Food and beverages will be sold as well.
On April 24, events include a craft show featuring over 67 vendors, a business showcase and an antique car show. There will also be live entertainment featuring Brass 5, Island Trio, Mish Moves Dance, Defy Gravity Cheer Team, Floyd Ward Dance Ensemble and the William Byrd Jazz Band – all performing on the Vinton Municipal Building Stage between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
There will also be yoga, Zumba, Jazzercise, Country Line Dancing, Martial Arts and Tai Chi, free Kids’ Zone activities, demonstrations and take-home experiments to name a few.
The Vinton Dogwood Festival Court will be introduced in front of the Vinton Municipal Building at noon.
One deserving William Byrd High School female will also be crowned Miss Vinton Dogwood Festival by Mayor Brad Grose.
On April 24, the free Family Movie Night, featuring “The Lion King” (2019) takes place at the Vinton Farmers’ Market at 7:45 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a chair or blanket for seating. Social distancing will need to be adhered to.
On top of all that, two interactive parades will take place as part of the festivities.
Residents and businesses along Washington Avenue and Downtown Vinton will be decorating their yards, porches, storefronts and windows in celebration of the “Blooming Again Vinton Dogwood Festival Drive-by and Walk-by Parade” on April 23, April 24, and April 25. Prizes will be awarded for the best displays.
Also, all age groups are encouraged to prepare shoebox-sized floats for the “Virtual Shoebox Parade” that will be premiered on the Dogwood Festival Facebook page on April 24 starting at 2 p.m. and will be displayed during the festival at the Vinton Farmers’ Market. Prizes will be awarded and all participants will receive a certificate of participation.
